Which is the best month to visit Sri Lanka?
There is no specific month. However, the island is divided into two tourist seasons based on the prevailing monsoon system.
November to April: The southern and western coasts, national parks like Yala and Udawalawe and the central part offer a peaceful atmosphere with easy sunshine for tourism. Mirissa is good for blue whale watching, dolphin watching and seafood, while Hikkaduwa is good for diving, snorkelling and turtle watching, and surfing at Dickwella and Hiriketiya.
From May to October, the eastern and northeastern coasts, the central part, and the surrounding national parks are suitable for tourism. Nilaveli is also excellent for whale watching and swimming with dolphins, Pigeon Island is perfect for diving and snorkelling, and Arugam Bay is great for surfing.
This is the opinion of the tourism industry. In addition, some months are special due to various festivals. Those are:
- December: This month brings the Christmas and holiday seasons. During that time, hotel prices and other things will be increased.
- April: Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.
- In August: The Esala Perahera in Kandy.
In this way, different months are special for various festivals. But no matter which month you choose for your vacation, the diversity in Sri Lanka will surely make your trip unforgettable. So, start your journey without fear or skepticism about any month.
