Where is Sri Lanka on the map?

When you look at a regional or global map, Sri Lanka shows up as a distinct, teardrop-shaped island sitting right below the Indian subcontinent, in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, you know, the usual.

It has no land border neighbours at all, and instead it is divided from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu by the shallow waters of the Palk Strait along with the Gulf of Mannar. To the south-west, the Maldives archipelago lies nearby, while to the east, the large Bay of Bengal opens out and keeps going.
