What plug adapter do I need for Sri Lanka?

When you travel to Sri Lanka, you will most likely need a Type D or Type G plug adaptor, depending on where you stay, because it can be a bit mixed. The electrical voltage in the country sits at 230V, and the frequency is 50Hz.

  • Type G: This is the three-rectangular-pin plug, and it’s the usual setup you see in the United Kingdom.
  • Type D: This one has three round pins, and it is often found in India and in older buildings across Sri Lanka.

In newer hotels and modern guesthouses, you will mostly find universal or Type G style sockets. Still, in more rural places, you may run into Type D outlets. If you carry a universal travel adaptor, you can charge your devices without headaches, even if the socket type changes.
