What language is spoken in Sri Lanka?

Different languages are widely spoken in Sri Lanka, but the two most spoken are Sinhalese and Tamil. This is because minority groups are the majority in this area. On the contrary, the majority of the Sri Lankan people speak and understand English. English is the bigger language, widespread in schools, business, tourist spots and hotels, TV, people, etc. And, being a language that comes naturally to the general public, there is a situation where English is most used. You as a tourist will find most of the Sri Lankan population quite capable of understanding what you are communicating about. From the shops to the intersection of the common road, and on public transport, you should easily be able to find a Sri Lankan ear that will listen and understand your request. So there is simply no need for you to ever shy away from saying anything.
