What is the weather like in Sri Lanka in July?

In July, Sri Lanka has a sharp change in climate. The south-western shorelines and the hill country get heavy monsoon downpours along with high humidity, but the northern and eastern parts are more likely to be dry, bright, and pleasantly warm, if you ask me.

Temperatures usually sit around 27 to 30°C (80 to 86°F) in the coastal lowlands, while the higher ground, like Nuwara Eliya, stays much cooler than you expect. So if you are planning the trip in July, it helps to aim your schedule towards the East Coast. Places like Trincomalee, Arugam Bay, and Passikudah work well for beach time and for those clearer skies you want.
