What is the rainy season in Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka gets two real rainy periods in a not-very-complicated way, depending on regional monsoons. The Yala monsoon tends to send heavy downpours over the south-west from May to September, while the Maha monsoon reaches the north-east from October through January.
Since these systems tend to touch opposite sides of the island in different weeks of the year, Sri Lanka stays a travel destination all year long. When the intense rainstorms pound the south and west coasts, the east and north beaches are usually in a dry mood, sunny, and calm enough for relaxing.
