What is the rainy season in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka experiences two main rainy seasons, depending on its geographical location.

  • South-West Monsoon (Yala Season): Heavy rains fall in the Southwestern, Southern, and Western coastal areas from May to early October.
  • North-East Monsoon (Maha Season): Occurs from October to January and mainly affects the eastern regions, including Jaffna, the North-East, and Trincomalee.

However, don't forget that during these monsoon periods, there are also beautiful places to visit with dry weather.
