What are the best beaches in Trincomalee?

The best beaches in Trincomalee are Nilaveli and Uppuveli, known for their long stretches of soft white sand and calm, crystal-clear waters. Marble Beach is also a real stunner. It feels more tucked away, and it is managed by the Sri Lankan Air Force.

Uppuveli is closer to Trincomalee town, so it has a lively vibe with beachfront guesthouses, seafood restaurants, and casual bars. Nilaveli, located a bit further north, gives a more pristine, away-from-it-all resort feel, and it is the main starting point for snorkelling trips toward Pigeon Island. Both beaches are usually the most peaceful between May and September, as they avoid the monsoon currents that can trouble the southern coasts.
