Is Sri Lanka in South Asia or Southeast Asia?
Sri Lanka is, geographically and also geopolitically, usually listed as part of South Asia. It's an island nation in the Indian Ocean, lying right off the southeastern point of the Indian subcontinent.
As one of the founding members of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, meaning SAARC, the country has strong historic, cultural, and language-based links with its South Asian neighbours such as India, the Maldives, and Bangladesh. Even though its tropical weather and palm-lined shores are often likened visually to places people associate with Southeast Asia like Thailand or Bali, the official regional label stays firmly South Asian.
