How many waterfalls are in Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has more than 400 waterfalls already recorded, which gives it the highest density of waterfalls in the world compared to its landmass. Most of these falls, actually, are gathered in the central highlands and the taller mountain areas.

The island’s unusual landscape, plus heavy monsoonal rainfall, helps form a tangled web of rivers that drop over dramatic escarpments. You can find well-known places like Bambarakanda Falls (listed as the island’s tallest at 263 metres) and Diyaluma Falls, and they pull in thousands of hikers every year. The Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, and Ratnapura districts are the key geographical hubs where people chase waterfall routes and viewpoints.
