How long to spend in Galle?

Spending one to two full days in Galle is generally the best window for most travellers to get through the historic Dutch Fort and nearby areas, completely, I guess. It gives you enough time to drift along the cobblestone roads, check out the lighthouse, and sit in the little boutique cafes without feeling rushed.

• One Day: Enough for a focused walking route through the UNESCO World Heritage zone, with attention on colonial architecture, maritime museums, and then a sunset stroll along the ramparts.
• Two Days: Gives you a calmer tempo, so you can enjoy more considered meals inside the fort walls, plus do short afternoon side trips to nearby shorelines like Unawatuna or Dalawella Beach.
