How long to spend in Galle?
For most travellers, spending 1-2 days in Galle is pretty much ideal. In that span, you have enough time to wander around the old Galle Fort, stroll along the coastal ramparts, and pop into the small boutique cafes without feeling like everything is rushed.
Galle is famous for its 17th-century Dutch fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and yes, in theory, you can see it during a half-day walking route. But staying overnight lets you enjoy the softer, romantic vibe of the fort once the daytime crowds have moved on. With two days, you can really dig into the colonial-style buildings, check out the Maritime Museum, catch the sunset near the lighthouse, and still have time for a quick tuk-tuk ride toward Unawatuna or Dalawella. Overall, it feels like a culturally rich, very walkable pause on the southern shoreline.
