How long does Esala Perahera last?
The annual Esala Maha Perahera typically lasts for 10 days each year. The sacred offering to the Buddha's relic enshrined in the Temple of the Tooth is celebrated with great pomp and show in a procession, during which the relic is carried through the streets on a sacred elephant. Traditional dancers, drummers, fireworks, and majestic elephants clad in elaborate costumes make the event truly spectacular. So, if someone can see even one day of this, it's their luck.
