Can visitors participate in the morning alms offering at Kubalwela?

Yes, people from all kinds of backgrounds are welcome, and it is really encouraged to participate in the morning alms offering, known as Pindapatha, at the Kubalwela monastery.

This old Theravada custom basically involves laypeople placing prepared food right into the alms bowls of the resident monks. If you want to join, then you need to be there early in the morning, usually before 7:00 AM, and then connect with the local lay devotees who handle the kitchen. Bringing freshly cooked rice, fruit, or dry rations is considered a very respectful way to gain merit and to experience authentic Sri Lankan Buddhist culture up close, firsthand.
