Can I pay my Sri Lankan travel agency in USD, EUR, or GBP?

Most Sri Lankan travel agencies gladly accept overseas money such as USD, EUR, and GBP through bank transfer routes, online credit card portals, or plain cash when you arrive. Getting quotes and collecting payments in more stable foreign currencies helps local operators cushion the jolts from Sri Lankan Rupee volatility.

If you decide to pay by credit card, keep in mind that regional banking gateways may charge a surcharge of about 2% to 3.5%. And if you intend to clear the remaining balance using foreign currency in cash upon arrival, make sure the banknotes are crisp, spotless, and without any small tears. Local banks strictly refuse damaged foreign bills.
